Welcome to Ryven City, a growing town of people with no worries except when the next bill comes in. Modern day living with typical working class and typical school bound children...how boring!
The City holds a secret that no one outside the surrounding area is aware of, a world within a world...one where magic is very much alive. As ruled by the mayor of the city all magic is banned within and around Ryven. Anyone caught practicing such arcane acts will be turned over to the law abiding officials created for such matters, known to all as the Guardmens. Most will be returned unharmed but striped of their abilities.
To those who carry the gene for spells it is best to keep such matter a secret and go on with your life. Though children of the gene who show the gift will shortly find themselves learning to control their powers or finding a new home. The only guidance to these users are books from generations before, either given to them to study or found locked somewhere in their family home [only those with the gift can read the books though not necessary do they have to be related to the writer].
Still magic is a dangerous act and the city wants to protect not only those who are not gifted but those who share the abilities of spells. For every cruel or harmful act of magic used a darkness begins to take form within the user. This monster begins an addition for power and can consume the enchanter's mind and thus bring destruction to the world around them.
Though magic can also be good. Guardians to magic and barely tolerated by the Guardmens are the Keepers, a group of sorcerers who are seeking those born to the Blood. In secret they try to train magic so that the darkness cannot grow any larger than by those not found in time. The Keepers are neither good nor bad as their form of 'saving' a magic user is by 'collecting' them.
With magic a strong addition their are those who wish to do things their own way and then there are the ones who are consumed by it all. Though there is something not right with either side and the power is only getting harder to HOLD INSIDE.
